Cabbage Savoy Health Benefits and Uses:-
- Cabbage Savoy plant is native to Central and Southern Asia and the cultivated cabbage Savoy plant was first introduced into Europe by Emperor Charles V of Spain during his Medici Period. This plant was initially used as a medicinal herb that is still being cultivated as a vegetable in the Mediterranean region, South America and Africa today.
- The cabbage Savoy plant is a succulent plant that comes in the wild as long as three feet tall. In the wild, it is also referred to as the “chickweed plant”. Its name came about because of its resemblance to a chickweed plant. The cabbage Savoy plant has purple flowers with red berry-like leaves. The plant is a small white cabbage that is commonly found growing on fences, trees, and walls.
- The cabbage Savoy plant has two main varieties; the White cabbage Savoy plant and the Black cabbage Savoy plant. The White cabbage Savoy plant has a short thick flower stamen that has a very sweet flavour and its blooms at the end of summer. The Black cabbage Savoy plant has a much longer thick flower stamen that is much darker and bitter.
- As a vegetable, the cabbage Savoy plant grows up to two feet tall and has thin dark green leaves that are slightly darker in colour than the white ones. The cabbage Savoy plant has tiny little purple flowers, which bloom at the end of summer. The flowers are a bit small but they do last quite long.
- When harvesting this plant you should pick the cabbage off of the flower stamen only. The flower stamen of the cabbage plant is called the Cephalotus flower. You can cut off the leaf from the plant after you harvest it, although some people will not allow this to happen, because it is a vegetable plant.
- If you have your own herb garden or a home herb garden you can harvest the plant year-round and take it home with you. If you don’t have a home herb garden this vegetable is a good choice because it doesn’t have to be refrigerated and you can eat it fresh at any time of the year.
- When purchasing this plant, it is important to read up on how to properly care for it to keep it. Cabbage and other vegetables should be washed thoroughly before eating them to kill any bacteria.
- To prepare the cabbage, cut off the bottom of the cabbage leaf and place this on a cutting board and put cooking utensils or spoons on it. Put a tablespoon of salt in the centre of the leaf. Cover the loaf with foil and then put it on the cutting board and leave it there for one to two hours until the salt dissolves in the water.
- The salt dissolves and the leaf dries up when the salt dissolves it makes a thick layer over the leaf. After removing the leaf from the board dip it into the water and put into the dishwasher to soak. Rinse out the dishwasher and dry and repeat for as many times as needed.
- To make a herb dressing, put the leaves into a blender or juicer and grind them up with one cup of lemon juice or lime juice to make a paste. Once the herb dressing is made, add three cups of the herb dressing and mix. This will make a great dressing.
