Tomato Apollo Plant is a hybrid that was first bred in the 1980s in California by a man named John G. “Jack” Thompson. As with any hybrid, it can have a number of undesirable traits as well as desirable traits, and this plant is no different. The fruit is actually a capsule and is covered in a thin layer of latex. If you eat this fruit, it will taste a bit like a tomato and it is good to eat on its own.

In order to breed the plant, Jack Thompson had to do a lot of experimenting. It took him four years to get all of the genes that were needed for the plant to be able to reproduce. By that time, Thompson had already spent the previous two years breeding other plants that are now used commercially. His dedication paid off when the plant had successfully reproduced, which allowed him to breed it and make money from it.
